For more than 20 years, H.E. Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak has championed environmental protection, species conservation and climate action in the UAE and globally.
H.E. Ms. Al Mubarak is the elected President of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), as the second woman to lead the 1,400-member organization and the first president from West Asia. More recently, she served a two-year term as the UN Climate change High-Level Champion for COP28, where she advocated for greater integration of climate, biodiversity and nature targets, mobilized non-state actors for inclusive climate action and ensured that underrepresented communities on the frontlines of the climate change were front and center of the global agenda.
Under her leadership as Managing Director of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), she has promoted nature and species conservation efforts and ambitious climate action goals. She is also the Founding Director of the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, which has supported thousands of conservation projects across more than 170 countries.
H.E. Ms. Al Mubarak serves as Chair of the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture and Co-Chair of the Taskforce on Nature-Related Financial Disclosures. She is also a board or advisory member of the Rockefeller Foundation Economic Council on Planetary Health, the Cambridge Conservation Initiative, Emirates Nature–WWF, and Panthera, among several other prominent organizations dedicated to environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation.
