Who We Are
Founded in 2024, Clean Rivers is a UAE-backed foundation that funds and facilitates global programmes that address waste mismanagement and leakage across the land-to-sea continuum. We have active partnerships and programmes in Indonesia, the Philippines and Brazil.
Our Mandate
As a funder, facilitator and convenor, Clean Rivers is working to:
- Reduce waste leakage into rivers and improve riverine communities' wellbeing
- Strengthen circular economies and livelihoods of waste workers
Clean Rivers prioritises multi-level collaboration, community-led action, circular economy and catalytic philanthropy approaches
Rivers are our planet’s lifelines, sustaining lives, livelihoods, ecosystems and economies. Polluted rivers signal broken systems and threaten our shared future.
An estimated 80 percent of global marine plastic waste originates on land and travels into the ocean via waterways. The consequences of waste mismanagement are most visible in the environment.
